Stinging Insect Control for Savannah & Pooler Area Homes

Stinging Insects in Coastal Georgia — Not Something to DIY
A wasp nest under your eaves. Yellow jackets in a ground burrow near the back door. A carpenter bee boring into your deck boards. These aren’t just nuisances — they can be genuinely dangerous, and they tend to get worse the longer you wait.
Stinging insects are some of the most defensive pests you’ll encounter around your home. Disturb a nest without the right training and equipment, and what started as a nuisance can turn into a serious incident fast. Over 500,000 people end up in the emergency room each year from stinging insect encounters — most of them involving nests near the home.
At Prestige Pest Control, our team of certified entomologists and licensed technicians handles stinging insect control throughout Pooler, Savannah, and the surrounding communities. We identify the species, locate all nesting sites, and treat them completely — including follow-up to make sure foragers that return after treatment are also eliminated.

Stinging Insects We Treat in the Savannah Area
Coastal Georgia has a full lineup of stinging insects that become problematic around homes and businesses. Here’s what we commonly treat:
Paper Wasps
Paper wasps are the most common stinging insect we remove in this area. They build the distinctive umbrella-shaped nests you’ll find under eaves, door frames, porch ceilings, and behind shutters. They’re not aggressive until threatened, but a nest near a frequently-used entrance is a sting waiting to happen. They’re also persistent re-nesters — knock down the nest without treating the site, and they’ll rebuild.
Yellow Jackets
Yellow jackets are the ones that ruin outdoor cookouts and picnics. They’re highly aggressive, especially late in summer and early fall when colonies are at their largest. Most yellow jacket nests are in the ground or inside wall voids, which makes them hard to find and dangerous to treat without the right approach. A single nest can contain thousands of workers, all of them willing to sting repeatedly.
Bald-Faced Hornets
If you see a gray, football-shaped papery nest up in a tree or under an overhang, that’s bald-faced hornets. They’re significantly more aggressive than paper wasps and will defend their nest territory aggressively. These should only be handled by professionals — and ideally not approached at all until treatment is complete.
Carpenter Bees
Carpenter bees look like bumblebees but behave very differently. The females bore perfectly round holes into unfinished or weathered wood — decks, fences, fascia boards, and porch railings are common targets. They don’t eat the wood, but over time the tunneling causes structural damage. Males can be territorial and will hover aggressively, but they don’t sting. The damage, though, adds up.
Honey Bees
We handle honey bee situations a little differently. Honey bees are protected pollinators and play a critical role in local agriculture. When possible, we recommend relocation over extermination. If you have a honey bee swarm or colony in your structure, let us know — we’ll assess the situation and connect you with appropriate resources for safe removal.

How We Handle Stinging Insect Removal
Our process is straightforward and thorough:
Inspection
We locate all nesting sites on the property, including ground nests, wall voids, soffits, and tree lines. Your input on where you’ve seen activity is part of the process.
Species identification
Knowing exactly what we’re dealing with determines the right treatment. This is where our entomology background matters — we don’t guess.
Targeted treatment
We use professional-grade products applied directly to nesting sites, including dusts for void treatments and aerosols for accessible nests. We arrive in full protective equipment.
Residual barrier
We treat the area around former nest sites to stop returning foragers from re-establishing. Foragers can stay active for up to 72 hours after a colony is eliminated.
Follow-up
We check back to confirm the infestation is fully resolved. If stinging insects return within our warranty window, so do we.

When to Call About Stinging Insects
Some people wait to call until a nest is large and activity is constant. That’s the hardest situation to deal with. Colonies grow fast — a paper wasp nest that had a dozen workers in May can have several hundred by August. Early-season nests are smaller, easier to treat, and less aggressive.
Call us if you’re seeing:
- A visible nest near doors, windows, play areas, or high-traffic outdoor spaces
- Flying insects entering and exiting a crack in your siding, soffit, or foundation
- Unexplained round holes in wood structures (carpenter bees)
- Unusual ground activity in a specific area of your yard (yellow jackets)
- Stinging insects inside your home — this usually means a nest is inside the structure

Stinging Insect Prevention Tips
You can reduce the likelihood of stinging insects nesting on your property by eliminating what attracts them:
- Inspect eaves, overhangs, soffits, and door frames early in spring before nests get established
- Fill in ground holes and voids where yellow jackets commonly nest
- Paint or stain bare wood to discourage carpenter bees
- Keep garbage cans tightly sealed — yellow jackets are drawn to food and sweet liquids
- Trim back shrubs and trees that overhang the structure
