Wildlife Identification & Prevention
What are wildlife?

Wild animals can live outside successfully on their own, unlike domesticated animals that require our assistance for survival. They frequently find their way into our yards, and, once present, they are persistent, problematic, dangerous, and difficult to evict. Squirrels, raccoons, and opossums are great examples of wildlife that often wind up in our Georgia yards, homes, and businesses.
Is wildlife dangerous?
You must keep wildlife away from your property to protect your family’s health and safety, your home’s structural integrity, and to guard your yard and garden against damage.
Wild animals carry and transmit disease-causing pathogens, bacteria, and parasites that can make us and our pets ill. They paw through and turn over trash cans, dig up lawns, damage garden plants, and sometimes create their own entrance and exit points into our homes.
When wild animals feel threatened, they won’t hesitate to protect themselves by lashing out and biting, scratching, hissing, or growling. Having wild animals in your yard, living close to or inside your house, puts you, your kids, and your pets in danger.
Why do I have a wildlife problem?
Habitat loss is one of the significant reasons wild animals have become a problem for us on our properties. That coupled with the fact that our properties often offer wild animals easy access to food and water, it is no wonder why many wild animals live near us.

Where Will I Find Wildlife?
In rural areas, raccoons live in wooded areas or fields near streams. Properties near wooded areas are most likely to experience problems with these pests. In more urban areas, raccoons hide in woodpiles, under decks or dumpsters, or inside our chimneys, attics, and crawlspaces.
Opossums out in nature or rural areas live near streams in swamps, fields, or wooded areas. When living in our yards, opossums live under decks, in trees, woodpiles, and brush piles. They are also regular visitors to our garages and sheds.
Squirrels are most problematic around areas where there are plenty of trees for them to climb and nest in. Properties near wooded areas and parks tend to witness a lot of squirrel activity. They jump from tree branches to our roof, ending up in our chimneys, attics, and behind wall voids. If they find a way into a garage or shed, they often decide to nest under the hood of a car or lawnmower.

How can I prevent wildlife in the future?
In addition to our home pest control and commercial pest control services, protect your property from wildlife with the following prevention tips:
- Make it difficult for wild animals to gain access into your home by keeping caps on chimneys, covers on vents, and putting tight-fitting screens in open windows and doors.
- Limit their ability to gain access to food on your property by keeping lids on trash cans, picking up uneaten pet food, removing bird feeders, and maintaining gardens.
- Keep attics and basements free of the clutter that wildlife like squirrels can hide in.
- Bury fencing around the bottom of sheds and other structures on your property to stop wild animals from burrowing under them.
- Keep basement, garage, and shed doors closed tightly whenever possible.
- Cut tree branches back away from your roofline.
- Remove unnecessary woodpiles and other debris from your yard where wildlife can hide.
